That weather here in Eugene is so different to what I have experienced so far. It's almost like back home, but just a tad chillier. I know it's just some fluke, because everyone, even Eugenians are shocked by the weather. I believe this weather started on Wednesday, or actually Tuesday I think.
This weather makes me miss home even more. Because I know that this doe snot last long here in Oregon and back home it lasts for days. I believe thinking about it I just cannot live where the sun rarely comes out. While most of my friends keep their blinds closed when the weather is like this because they will not get work done, I keep mine open to help me feel better. While I do take longer breaks in between reading, I need the to soak up every ounce of sun I can get.
On Friday I needed to get a few things at Target so rather than taking the EmX to the bus station I walked there. The weather was in the 50s, that's about 10 degrees warmer than usually. I hoped on the bus and just sat there waiting to arrive at the mall. I did my shopping, ran into Sarah, who was buying my V-Day present. We did secret Valentine's on our floor, I got Sarah and she got me. She was not able to go shopping before hand so my gift was later. I got the gift later that day and it was The Other Boleyn Girl and a card with a fat cupid.
Then yesterday we wanted to go to the Saturday Market, but did know that it only happens in the spring through fall. So we were in Downtown with nothing to do. So the girls asked where we could get breakfast that had vegan options. I took them to Morning Glory. The loved it and I got these wonderful Vegan Apple Danish Waffles. I couldn't eat it all so it's sitting in Alexa's fridge.
Once we got back we met up with the other girls and talked about the weather, not getting to the market and the beach. We have been wanting to go since last term. Shelly then decided that we would go at 3 p.m. Which gave us almost 2 hours to get work done before we left. So Aoi, Shelly, Sarah, Alexa and myself got ready for the beach. It took us about and hour and a half to get to Florence. We were dressed for spring beach weather in California, not Oregon winter beach weather. When we finally got to the beach, we had to climb up the dunes. It was hard work to climb up them. Aoi fell once she started running down to the beach.
The water was so cold that within 5 minutes are feet were numb and we could not feel anything. We spent about an hour there, even though it felt a lot less. It felt good to be around sun and the ocean, but it did not have the smell I remember it having. I usually go to California beaches which has this salty air that is nice to smell. We still had fun, walking back I did not want to put my shoes on when walking to the car because of how sandy my feet were. So I just went barefoot. I am sure if I had feeling in my feet I could feel the asphalt, but I could not. I did what I could to get all the sand off and then put on socks.
We got back to Eugene after dark and were starving. So the trip was a good one and I enjoyed it, but I think it help me see that I need to be places with sun to function. I am not 100% sure I will just move back to Arizona after this school year, but I am very tempted to. Which messes my desire to study Irish history. Only two schools in the US seem to have people who study that background. They are both on the east coast where cold weather is always the norm. So I am not sure what I am going to do.
I use to think I was not meant to stay in Arizona, but now, I think I may need to stay there. Such a confusing thing.
